Lisianthus
Eustoma russellianum
Lisianthus, also known as the "Rose Without Thorns," is a native plant to North America and Mexico and grows naturally in prairies and riverbeds. Cultivated versions of the plant have existed since the 1930s and are direct descendants of the American "prairie gentian."
These flowers are in high demand, leading to the development of new genetically modified varieties each year. In 2016, a pollen-free variety was developed, which increases the flowers' durability and makes them easier to ship even during the summer, when high temperatures can usually spoil the blooms.
