Inner Landscapes in Lockdown - 2020
This work focuses on old photographs of landscapes depicting different towns around Australia, which I found in opp shops in my neighborhood. While doing some research, I discovered that these photographs were taken in the decade of 1910, a period afflicted by the influenza pandemic which was the most severe pandemic in recent history until now. With that in mind, I have superimposed them with photographs of plants I took during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in 2020. I have linked these images with a meditative painting intervention tracing what I call “Inner-landscapes”, establishing a dialogue with the shapes on the images while reflecting on the relationship between Memory, Materiality, Nature, and Urban Spaces.
